| WHO WE ARE
John Newsome is a strategy and management consultant who leads Public Equity Group (PEG), a “boutique” strategy consulting network, working with philanthropies, nonprofit community based organizations and global consulting firms. PEG’s clients include the Buffett Early Childhood Institute, the San Francisco Foundation, NewProfit Inc., Espacios Abiertos (a place-based initiative of the Open Society Foundations), Glide Memorial Church, and Larkin Street Youth Services, among others.
From 2009-2011, John served as Vice President at Global Business Coalition (GBC), designing and leading high-profile U.S. corporate social responsibility initiatives and working closely with senior executives at multi-national companies (e.g., the Brink’s Company, the Chevron Corporation, L’Oreal, Levi-Strauss & Co., Pfizer Inc.) and with public partners (e.g., the White House, Centers for Disease Control), representing GBC on Capitol Hill and managing public-private partnerships.
Between 1994 and 2006, John served on the executive and management teams of several organizations including the Oakland Public Schools (Executive Officer/chief of staff function) and the Bridgespan Group. John also served as Press Secretary and legislative aide to US Congresswoman Barbara Lee (D-Oakland) during her first term in office, and in 2000 and 2004, served as a media coordinator at the Democratic National Convention. John has held seats on numerous boards of directors, and recently completed six years of service on the National Advisory Board of the Haas Center for Public Service at Stanford University.
John is a 1990 National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow and holds a Spanish fluency certification, a BA (Spanish Literature), an MA (Modern Thought & Literature), and an MBA from Stanford University. http://publicequitygroup.org
